“Study the attitude not the age” is now officially my guide line toward the research.
The categories I choose are wearable, texture and surrounding.
For wearable and texture I focus on the people who twist red-orange and orange more differently than just plain spread of color.
The photos I chose has different ways to make red-orange and orange more protruding. Some of them combine the complementary colors to make it jump out for the viewer, and express the feeling of tropical, elegant, energetic, or African style…etc.
Different cuts and trims also tell the taste of my target. They want something slick, fashionable and elegant. The people that wear my target are tend to be young people and they stand out the crowd easily when I was trying to find them on the street.
According to the research I did, people associated red-orange and orange to be gorgeous, exciting, rich food, sweet, happiness.
So the attitude I am looking for should be optimistic, enjoying life and people who put effort in pursuing happiness.
The surrounding photos are from the daily route I took every time I commute to Manhattan for class or other business. A lot of signs or posters combined red-orange and orange with complementary colors to attract audience. They stood out the surrounding easily, and this method is not solely used only by restaurant but also for warrant signs and event posters.
Lecture of Giovanni Marra introduced the business of practical usage of color in real life. Through his speech, I reassured that it is crucial for all the designers to observe the world we are living in and understand the meaning behind every significant event. Also I’m glad to know that one of my biggest interests: fashion is the most important trend that affects all other trends. Infused, wearable, and texture are the fields of color applied that interested me most, and I’m planning to take them as the subjects of pictures taking. Since “Color is the first thing we recognize and the last thing we forgot,” color becomes the most important part of the brand identity, and it’s crucial to keep the identity consistently. It is also interesting to know the concept of core colors with newly added color in the production process. “Always study target’s attitude, not age” is probably the greatest and most important thing I learned from the lecture. Because before that all I’m thinking about is “age” instead of “attitude.” Now I know I have to modify the direction of my research, and pay more attention to the personalities of the subjects.
Photo Based Palette: Basically I analysed the picture I got in the subway. I tried out different filter in photoshop, and really like the result of paint brush, because it simplified the color portions without distorting the figure.
Complementary Mixing Scale: It too me some time to work on the scale this time, because the paint dry our pretty fast, so I have to remix the color again and again.
The name of my red-orange is “Love Life” and for the logo, I used two “L” together to create a sophisticated pattern and add paint-like color to the texture.

The color story board is a method for us to develop ideas about our assigned color, first I ran through the trash mail box to find some catalogues about fashion, and teat down the images that suit my ideas
Later I use facebook to send out question and ask people to send me photos of them dressed in red-orange or orange clothes (if they have any). At the same time I also try to find people on the street that dressed in the clothes.
Also I ask friend in the fashion department for some fabrics for study, and tomorrow I am going out to get more of them.
In order to do the 3d color wheel, I did a little math first and cut out all the material (color aids and paper board and sticks) I need before I put them together.
Then I stated to put them together
This is the finished piece
For Painted Color Chart I first cut out the color aids.
I experimented different kinds of combinations to make sure the color matched the color aids.
this is the finished piece with two ratio chart(the upper one is the successful one, and the lower is the failed)
painting is always an interesting subject, this time I tried two kinds of way to paint.
Adding grey to the red orange, and adding blue green to the red orange.
I painted several times over the old paint, trying to get the color I want.

and it the end this is the result I got.
