Time flies and before I even notice the semester ended. The ending of the semester was the exciting survey. I only slept 30 minutes on Wednesday, and tried to make everything perfect for the big day.
The book for color workshop was my major task for the survey. I spent a lot of time on the pages and cover. Since the laser cutting machine in 18th street was down, I had to use all the connections I have to get into the line for the machine in Brooklyn campus. Luckily I got help from my friends so the die cut cover was made perfectly. For the pages, my original idea was to print double sided on semi glossy paper. But my printer can’t make the double-sided spread aligned, so I have to ask the printing company in Manhattan for help, but they failed too after two attempts, but by that time I got no time for the third try so I decided to cut the pages to adjust them by myself.
The pages turned out not so perfectly aligned but since I have to do the signatures and binding by myself, I had to live with it. The binding took me a lot of time too. Due to my miscalculation the binding was much harder than I thought. But I solved it perfectly with my artistic tape. The final result was not bad but could be better. I really like the cover but will change a simpler font next time if I want to try it again.
Typography is another point to focus for my future study, hope I can really learn something from type 1. Can’t wait to get to it!
I really learned a lot from the experiences of creating the book, and got a lot of help from my friends and especially my roommates.
Thank you so much for the people that helped me with the book.
